Book Recommendation – ‘The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy’

As part of our celebrations of the transformation of our new library space, we continue to publish some book reviews from students at Chase Grammar School.

The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy is a book I found many adults around me had read when they were younger, and they all gave great reviews for it. My Dad showed me the original TV series after this, which sums up many of the events from the first two books in the series. Before we got very far in I was given a digital copy of the book to read, so I would enjoy the story more with less cut out.

As I had just finished my most recent book series at the time, I figured it would be a good time to read it, so I finished the first book in the Hitchhiker series, and am now already on the third in the series!

Each book is incredible, much better than I presumed they’d be at first. The humor is witty, intelligent and unique, giving rise to a genre that was never really explored before this book came out – comedy Sci-Fi, and I absolutely love the series.

The book’s storyline is genius, and incredibly clever, and even the third book still calls back to unexplained moments from the early chapters of the first book, such as certain events in the past explaining key current ones. The jokes are fit in perfectly, they contain unexpected things, sarcasm, repetition, and all other types of comedy that I (and most other people) appreciate and find funny. This goes in hand with the style of writing, which really includes the reader in the book compared to other works of literature which make you feel more as an observer.

Overall I would highly recommend this book, especially to those with interests in science, science fiction stories, and comedy-based writing, it is nearly always an easy read and I think more people should certainly get to know about the books!
